Bohol is surrounded by a large number of small islands. One of them is Cabilao Island, which lies on the West of the main island of Bohol, facing Cebu island. We have had a visit to this triangular shaped 7.2 square kilometer island.
Cabilao island consists of five barangays, Talisay, Cambaquiz, Looc, Pantudlan, and Cabacongan. The island has a roughly 3,500 inhabitants, who mainly live from fishing and animal husbandry. There are two fish protection areas in front of Cabilao. The
excellent fringing reef that totally surrounds the island is possibly the biggest asset of
Cabilao in terms of biodiversity as well as coral formations. |
