Bohol is endeavour of the Visayas islands. You reason whatsoever of the finest scuba match in the land in this expanse. Dearie localize is Cabilao island in the north. Bohol has a great wide variety of dive sites. It has everything - the reefs, different kinds of corals, walls, big and small fishes, starfishes, and other life forms under the sea.
A good point to start is Panglao, a small island known for its quiet beach resorts and several dive sites. Trips going to the nearby islands of Balicasag, Cabilao and Pamilacan can be organized from here.
Balicasag is a small island lies about 10 km south-west of Panglao. It is surrounded by a coral reef for great diving and snorkelling. On the southern side is a 400m Marine Sanctuary which is protected and which local inhabitants know and respect. A great number of different sharks are seen from December to January.
Another island connected to the west coast of Bohol which has some of the best diving sites in the Philippines is the Cabilao Island. The sea surrounding the island is remarkably clear, very suitable for diving and snorkelling. Cabilao Island is a great site for snorkelling although the some shallow parts have been destroyed by strong currents and typhoons. Amidst of this, Cabilao still ranks among the most beautiful islands in the Philippines.
Bohol Popular Dive Sites
Arco Point
Also known as the "Hole in the Wall" because there is a vertical funnel which you can enter at 9m and exit at 18m.
Balicasag Island - Northeast Slope / Black Forest
A steep sandy slope that reaches to a depth of over 40 meters. Find forests of black corals, and can find large groupers, Napoleon Wrasse, barracuda, tuna, snappers, and batfish.
Balicasag Island - Southwest Wall / Rico's Wall
A wonderful coral garden on a shelf from 7 meters to 11 meters. At the edge of the coral garden is a wall that drops down to about 35 meters.
Balicasag Island - Southeast Wall / Rudy's Rock
Same as Rico's Wall, both sites are actually connected.
Cabilao Island - Hammerhead Point
Interesting double drop-off, first to 100ft then deeper. With strong currents, this dive is noted for small shoals of Hammerhead Sharks in December and January. There are lots of small gorgonian sea fans, large barrel sponges, good soft corals, sea stars and crinoids.
Cabilao Island - Southwest Point (Drifting North)
Drifting north with the current, you are taken along a typhoon-damaged reef-top at 13ft, from which a wall goes down in two steps to beyond 130ft.
Cabilao Island - Southwest Point (Drifting South & East)
A good wall drops to 130ft plus. Different underwater species with profuse fish and invertebrate life, make this a good dive. There are many species of sea cucumbers and sea stars, anemones with clownfish and tube anemones.
Cathedral Wall
One of the excellent dive site in Balicasag Island with a profusion of cracks and crevices that require a flashlight to explore.
Cervera Shoal
Also known as "Snake Island" or "Spagetti Shoal". The shoal gets its name from the large number of black-and-white-banded sea snakes.
Duljo Point
Southwestern point of Panglao Island. Although normally calm, this site can be rough with strong currents. A drift dive here along the edge of a sandy slope at about 10 meters to a drop off down to 40 meters. The wall is covered with sponges, colorful corals, soft corals, and large sea fans.
Kalipayan
The house reef of Alona beach, also known as the "Happy Wall".
You can go there by banca, but it is just as easy to swim there from the beach. The conditions are normally calm, without currents, and a visibility of upto 25m.
Napaling
Ideal for underwater photographers and snorkellers. A dive here normally starts at about 5 to 7 meters, and then drops to about 20 to 30 meters, drifting along the wall. The wall has some very large table corals and plenty of anemones those funny anemone fishes.
Pamilacan Island - Northwest Side
Known as "nesting place of Manta Rays", these impressive creatures are occasionally seen here. There are some good gorgonian sea fans, and Flashlight Fish inhabit some of the caves.
Pungtud Wall
A beautiful coral garden, which starts at 2 meters, and slopes down to about 20 meters. There are good soft, leathery and stony corals with lots of small fish, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, and sea stars, angelfish, pufferfish, butterflyfish, wrasse, and anemones with anemone fish.
Resort Wall
The fringe reef here is flat and relatively smooth, mostly covered in seaweed and a few rocks, allowing comfortable entries and exits from the beach.
The Cavern
There are several small caves about 20-25 meters(60-75 feet) down the drop-off wall.
Turtle Point
Named after the turtles which shelter in the caves 18-20 meters down the wall. The wall itself is covered with feather stars and great numbers of tropical reef fish.
